- A business plan tests the viability of your business idea
- A good grant proposal is a persuasive argument for capital
- Neither document is easy; both require time and hard work
Business Plans and Grant Proposals
The short answer is given above. While a business plan is fundamental to determining the practicability of a new business, and a grant proposal is required for any grant, neither document is easy to produce.
The most common question we hear in this arena is, Can you write a business plan (or grant proposal) for me? Sorry to disappoint, but the answer is, No. Initially, at least, you have have to gather all the pertinent information and start writing these documents yourself. The reason is simple: you have all the necessary knowledge for your plan or proposal.
The good news is a wealth of good and thorough information is available to help you get started — so much information, in fact, that we won’t even bother replicating it here. Here's what to do:
- Visit About.com and search for “business plan” or “grant proposal.” This is a Web site that has more information, about virtually any subject, than just about anywhere else on the Internet. (In fact, starting there is good for nearly any project, including painting the kitchen.)
- Follow the advice and directions you obtain there. Use any forms and outlines you can find. It’s all there, ready for you.
- Contact our associates at Affordable Writing and Editing (phone 303-443-6608). Once you have the basic information pulled together from your work in the previous steps, Affordable can help you complete and then polish your business plan or grant proposal.
